The S 2nd Residence demonstrates that design constraints can make architecture more beautiful. This mirrored duplex is carefully sited between large heritage oak trees, and rests on a pier-and-beam foundation to negotiate the erosion hazards of the creekside site. Following the slope of the site, the building steps down into a double-height living space, creating a feeling of expansion. High windows and strategically located skylights create a beautiful quality of light that subtly transforms the space throughout the day.
