Kinda Tropical is an essential east side staple in a remodeled former gas station. The main building housing the restaurant marks the perimeter of a sunny outdoor dining space. Out front, where the gas pumps used to be, a tiny tropical plant shop beckons passersby. The project is defined by a subtle, restrained eclecticism that embodies East Austin’s scrappy charm.
